XenDesktop or VDI-in-a-Box? How to choose?

Written on Wednesday 22 February 2012 by Bob Deleeck

Citrix offers two great options for desktop virtualization - XenDesktop and VDI-in-a-Box, but how do you choose which is best for you? Is it a matter of cost, environment size, features, and/or other factors?

In very simple terms, if you need simple VDI use VDI-in-a-Box; otherwise go with XD with its Flexcast offering. Aside from this general rule of thumb, other factors to understand that can help you make a more clear decision, are knowing the two products in terms of: Authentication, Automation, Setup and Maintenance, High Availability, Scalability, Cost, HDX 3D Pro, and Policies.
Read about each of these factors in more detail in the recently published blog, XenDesktop or VDI-in-a-Box? How to choose?

Also, Kumar Goswami, VP of Product & Strategy for VDI-in-a-Box at Citrix, and Gabe Knuth of BrianMadden.com further address the vision in 2012 and when to use VDI-in-a-Box and XenDesktop. Read this message here.
